Michelle Gagnon was on a bit of a hiatus before COVID hit and jumping headfirst into a new adult series and a psychology degree. Her unique perspectives, experience in working with trauma in youth (specifically in the LGBT community), and a quirky sense of humor all come together in a new series led by a smart, funny, empathetic and raw queer serial killer hunter, Amber Jamison.
When she is kidnapped by helping someone load a van and recognizes that she might be the latest victim of the Pokémon killer (don’t worry, the plot changes pretty quickly after that), she realizes that she has to do everything it takes to stay one step ahead of the game while protecting some of the most vulnerable young women who will be his next victims. The predictable pattern only hinges on one major victim being caught and murdered – herself. Mainly set in the fast paced world of the Las Vegas underbelly (which at the time I started reading this I was visiting for the first time unbeknownst to me at the time), we are introduced to a cast of women desperately trying to save each other while taking down a serial killer who was only second to a similarly named one from decades earlier serving life in prison in Colorado.
This was a fun read and the characters were engaging, funny, and very real. If you like a fast paced thriller with some modern honesty and humor, you won’t be able to put this one down. I’ll likely be reading the second once I get my hands on it.
